Going from Garden Photo to Garden Dress

Since I’ve been delving into drawing on the iPad, I have also learned about artists who are selling their work printed on products through Print-on-Demand (POD) companies. I thought I’d test a few items at a few different POD companies, and see if I can find practical ways to print my work and offer it for sale. After reading the …

New Symmetrical element

Last night’s iPad drawing, just black and white this time. Everything is on one layer. It was easily vectorized in Illustrator, so now on to the next step…which direction? Color Ribbon border White tangles in the black border? Scarf design? The time-lapse video of this drawing is extra fun when all those little stripes come in:         …

Symmetrical, but not really a mandala

This digital drawing was an experiment in switching between symmetry grids in Procreate throughout the drawing. I used both Quadrant Symmetry and Rotational Symmetry. The switching had to be done carefully, because elements didn’t automatically line up as easily when using a different grid. Black, white and two colors of green, no shading

I can only imagine how great this must be when using a top-of-the-line iPad with the Apple Pen – I understand that gives you pressure sensitivity, so you can make larger lines by pressing harder, lighter strokes …

Wish it was a rug

My husband noticed my new obsession last night…”you’re really excited about that drawing program.” I had tried drawing on my ipad before, but found the experience mostly buggy, and the results were unimpressive. I’m so comfortable with my desktop tools – Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop mostly – that I put down the ipad and forgot about it. Until now. A …

Virtual Quilt from Art Journal element

I picked up some drafting stencils at a thrift store for a quarter. This journal page kicked off by moving and filling an ellipse stencil around the page. Clearly not the neatest pen work, but who cares when it will be used very small! I open my picture of the page in Adobe Capture and experiment with options for patterns. …
