Begin – Beaded Fragment Assemblage In true Begrinner style, I often start making before I know what I’m making. It has been a good way to learn new techniques, and often, one thing leads to another, and I end up with a finished piece of art. I also end up with little starts and orphaned elements. Today I “shopped” my …
Free-form beadwoven necklace made from scrap elements
I just described this piece to my husband…”I wanted this to look like a piece of net that had floated in the sea, and caught a bunch of things up in it; that got stuck in it; and stayed on it when it was pulled out of the sea.” I started this with a dichroic glass cabochon that I bezeled …
Button and Netting Necklace
There’s nothing like a new craft book to get me motivated and scurrying off to my studio. A few weeks ago, I received a copy of beader extraordinaire Laura McCabe’s Embellished Beadweaving: Jewelry Lavished with Fringe, Fronds, Lacework & More (Beadweaving Master Class Series). I took a class from Laura several years ago through the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild, and …
She’s half a doll now!
After a quiet Sunday with lots of time to bead in my favorite chair, this pile of beads is really starting to look like a doll! So far there are 3 pieces, 2 legs and a skirt. All 3 pieces are now connected into one form. I think the skirt wants more fringe, which will probably drop like a petticoat …
Striving for creativity
The date of my last post here tells the story…a change in our housing situation started in March of this year. I stopped posting to my blog in March of this year. As I look back over the last 5 or so years, I can see rises and dips in my creative efforts. I go strong for a while, but then life interrupts with …
Green Beaded Bead Doll
This doll is made from three beaded beads…two barrel-shaped beads form the body, and a peyote-covered flat disk bead for the head. The face is a flat back charm that lays on top of the head bead. Leaves make good hands.
Blue Beaded Rosette
This rosette was based on a pattern in Bead and Button magazine. I made a few of them…perhaps I’ll add it to another project.
Improvised Circular Peyote Stitch
This is an improvised circular peyote stitch piece. I like working in the round…it’s got a meditative feel to it. You stitch from the middle out, so you watch this design happen in your hand, according to the color choices you make. Like really slow motion animation.
Spiral Bracelet
This bracelet is based upon a pattern from a book by Carole Wilcox Wells, The Art and Elegance of Beadweaving. It introduced me to the idea of manipulating a shape by the size of the bead you choose. The bracelet is pretty stiff as a wearable piece because of the tension of the bead weaving…a heavy bangle. I also like …
