This rosette was based on a pattern in Bead and Button magazine. I made a few of them…perhaps I’ll add it to another project.
Aunt Ruby’s Magic Wand
I made this magic wand for my great-Aunt Ruby’s 98th birthday present. She is a magical and delightful lady in every sense of the word…I’m sure she already had a magic wand and just needed an upgrade. I modified a pattern I saw in Bead and Button magazine for a peyote-stitched starfish. (At left is my first starfish…also an experiment …
Spiral Experiment – Circular Peyote-Stitch
This is another circular peyote-stitch piece I made when I was experimenting with spirals. You can generate a spiral in circular peyote-stitch by adding a bead of the same color as the one you just exited.
Tiny wind chimes hang just below the star, so when you use …
Improvised Circular Peyote Stitch
This is an improvised circular peyote stitch piece. I like working in the round…it’s got a meditative feel to it. You stitch from the middle out, so you watch this design happen in your hand, according to the color choices you make. Like really slow motion animation.
The Headless Doll
I had no intention of making her headless…i had no intention of making her at all. I was experimenting with peyote-stitch tubes, and I thought it looked like a leg. She just sort of grew from there…until I got up to her neck. I liked her so much, I didn’t want to ruin her with some dorky looking face. And …
Purple to orange beaded circle
I improvised this piece, in my playful quest to make orange go with purple. I was also learning to keep circular peyote stitch flat, something I still strive for.
The What Now Necklace
The word panels in this necklace are made from shrink plastic that I stamped and hole-punched before baking. This necklace was made as a sign of solidarity with a friend who was struggling with office politics at work. She would often call with her struggles and I would try to help her put it in perspective. This necklace was my …
Bead Embroidery Pendant
I made this bead embroidery piece after reading “One Bead At a Time – Exploring Creativity Through Bead Embroidery” by Robin Atkins. It is one of my favorite books…a thin volume but really empowering. Her how-to’s are along the lines of “find something you love, and sew it on. Repeat.” Her approach is very freeing…she insists that if your construction …
Cuddly Clown Bead Embroidery
This is an improvisational bead embroidery piece. I started by gluing 6 broken lampwork bead halves onto stiff interfacing. (I bought a lot of broken lampwork beads on ebay.) As I worked the embroidery around those elements, it started to look like a little stuffed animal. I gave him a clown hat with a little tassle at the top.
