This small quilt, just 8.5” x 11”, was made as an entry for a Quilting Arts Magazine art challenge. The challenge was to create a an abstract quilt based upon a photograph. I started with this photo, taken from the lanai at Robb and Cathy’s condo in Bonita Springs: This is the pattern I made from the photograph: The …
Welcome to Granville Middle School Quilt
This quilt decorates my sister’s office, school secretary at Granville Middle School, home of the Blue Aces. This picture was taken before it was quilted. I also beaded the perimeter of the letters in silver.
Ohio Bow Tie Quilt
My mother gave me a few boxes of vintage quilt blocks and scraps that she found at auction. They were very irregular in size, and the fabrics were of different weights. I had to add some “shims” here and there, but it eventually came together. This top is ready to be quilted. I think I will use it as a …
Christmas Bag
This beaded bag has been an ongoing project. During Christmas season 2004, I did the beadwork. For a pattern, I scanned a black-and-white illustration out of an old book (pre-1920), and printed it on inkjet canvas. Protege
This is an improvised bead embroidery piece. I started by sewing the butterfly and the face to a rectangle of interfacing. These two elements are stamped metal pieces I bought from a place that sells charms. I haven’t decided yet what to do with this piece.
Green Beaded Bead Doll
This doll is made from three beaded beads…two barrel-shaped beads form the body, and a peyote-covered flat disk bead for the head. The face is a flat back charm that lays on top of the head bead. Leaves make good hands.
Spiral – Charted Peyote Stitch
I worked this in traditional peyote stitch, end-to-end, following a charted pattern from the book, The Beader’s Bible: Over 300 Great Charts For Beadweavers, by Claire Crouchley. Maybe it will be part of a little bag some day.
Do purple and orange go together?
I have purple kitchen counters. I also have stained cabinets that I think have an orange tint. When I see my kitchen from across the room, those colors bug me. So I made a piece to see if I could blend between those two colors. This is pieced, and I’m not sure if I want to add to it, or …
Purple Jar with Lid
This little jar is an experiment with Peyote Stitch to see if I could make a vessel.
My first quilt – Blue Log Cabin
This was my first completed quilt project. I followed the instructions in Alex Anderson’s “Start Quilting” book. I quilted by hand. Here’s the top before it was quilted
